A permanent growing space for Dunoon and the surrounding area
As well as providing garden plots to individuals and a food forest for the community, the plans for the site will bring so much more. A hub will be built within the grounds where the community can gather for social and educational events - for example, learn what you can forage from the forest or how you can preserve your produce. The site will be as fully self-reliant and self-sustaining as possible.
Who are we?
We are a small group of individuals from the PA23 community who are seeking to obtain land for a growing space that also includes mixed woodland. We currently meet at the Old Pier building on the Dunoon waterfront twice per month.
What is a growing space?
The growing space will mainly consist of plots up to 250m2 to rent at a nominal cost where individuals or groups from the community can grow fruit and vegetables using organic principles. The perimeter will be surrounded by a food forest that will be accessible to all.
What is a food forest?
A food forest consists of a variety of plants that utilise the full structural range of a forest, from tall trees and shrubs to ground cover and roots. These will include fruit and nut trees to perennial vegetables and fungi.
